First Arab Muslim Accepted as Kibbutz Member
Amal Karmiyeh, originally from the Arab village of Kalansua, is the first Arab Muslim to be accepted as a member of the Kibbutz Movement. She and her family live on Kibbutz Nir Eliyahu, near Kfar Saba.
Karmiyeh originally sent her two sons to the kibbutz kindergarden, and was later hired as a nurse by the kibbutz and relocating her family to live there. She was voted a member of Nir Eliyahu over the Shavuot holiday.
