Two Aussie Jews Receive Country's Top Honor

Two Australian Jews who were active in the government have been awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia. Nearly 20 Jews have received the award since it was instituted in 1975.

The honorees are David Bennett, the government's top legal advisor, and Professor Peter Baume, a former senator and the first and only Jewish Liberal Member of Parliament. However, he once crossed party lines to support legislation backing Nazi war crime laws.
