As part of their criminal investigation of former finance minister Avraham Hirschson, Israel Police have revealed there may be links between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s former chief assistant, Ms. Shula Zaken, and Hirschson. Concurrently, Israel Police are investigating PM Olmert and selected members of his staff on various counts.
The police are currently investigating the possibility that NIS 100,000 was passed between Zaken and Hirschson to fund Hirschson’s election war chest in March 2004. During that time period, there were neither general or internal party elections, and the sum wasn’t reported to the relevant authorities or recorded in party financial ledgers, according to Israel Police sources.
