Transportation and Road Safety Minister Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) has proposed getting rid of the present point system for traffic violators. He suggested that drivers' licenses be rescinded if they are convicted of four serious violations, including excessive speeding, hit and run, using a cell phone while driving and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
The point system takes away licenses from drivers when they accumulate 12 points that are attached to their records for various infractions.
