Dozens of rabbis, heads of yeshivot, and Members of Knesset were allowed to visit the Temple Mount on Sunday in honor of Jerusalem Day. Police kept the visit secret until after the fact in order to minimize tensions with local Muslims.

Rabbi Dov Lior, who participated in the event, expressed sorrow over the fact that enemies of Israel were allowed to remain in territories regained during the Six Day War in 1967, including Jerusalem. He expressed hope that the mistake would be corrected in the near future, and that the people of Israel, particularly the youth, would work for Jewish sovereignty on the Temple Mount.
