The cabinet will not discuss its decision on a proposed temporary ceasefire in Gaza during its weekly meeting on Sunday. The discussion was postponed due to a disagreement between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Ehud Barak over the conditions of the ceasefire.

The ceasefire deal has faced opposition from security forces and from residents of the Gaza belt area, who say they do not want the government to stop counterterrorism operations in Gaza before Hamas agrees to return kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. Hamas has insisted that Shalit’s release would not be a part of the ceasefire deal.
