The population in Jerusalem in 2007 increased by 1.8 percent to 746,300, 34 percent of whom are Arab, according to Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies and Central Bureau of Statistics data. However, 6,390 more people left the city than those who moved to the capital. The net migration the past 17 years stands at 110,200. On the other hand, 2,500 new immigrants chose to live in Jerusalem in 2007.
Among Jews, 25.8 new babies were born for every 1,000 people, while the Arab birth rate stood at 30.5. On the other hand, the average number of birth per woman during her life has risen among Jews to 3.9 and declined among Arab women to 4.0. The fertility statistics were for the year 2006.
