Rivlin Calls to Cancel Anti-Disengagement Indictments

MK Reuven Rivlin (Likud) has introduced legislation to cancel indictments against hundreds of teenagers arrested during anti-disengagement protests during the summer of 2005.

Rivlin said the issue has become a "festering sore" for Israeli society, and said the Knesset Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee would push to remove criminal charges against the protesters if the state prosecutors office fails to terminate legal proceedings.

"If the prosecution wants to settle scores with them (protesters) and force them to stand trials, accept guilty verdicts and only then to ask for clemency, this would not… fall in line with the desire of Knesset members to bring this chapter, which has become a festering sore to Israeli society, to an end."
