Deputy Prime Minister Eli Yishai (Shas) told representatives of the Golan's local leadership that he supported their struggle against handing over the Golan to Syria.

Yishai told the head of the Golan Regional Council, Eli Malka, and the head of the Katzrin Local Council Sammy Bar-Lev, that he opposed Israeli concessions "at this stage," as long as the Syrians do not cut off their ties with terror elements.

Malka and Bar-Lev requested an audience with Shas's mentor, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.
