Twenty Members of Knesset have joined the IDF reserves for a day in an attempt to fight draft dodging. The initiative was started by MK Yisrael Hasson (Yisrael Beiteinu). If the day-long service is successful, Hasson said, it may become an annual event.
Hasson said the goal of the event was for MKs to be “proactive” in encouraging military service and not only to pass bills against draft dodging. Among those participating in the service will be MKs Zevulun Orlev and Aryeh Eldad of the National Union/National Religious Party, Esterina Tartman of Yisrael Beiteinu, Amira Dotan of Kadima, Limor Livnat of Likud, Yaakov Margi of Shas and Ran Cohen of Meretz. State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss will take part as well.
