Education Minister Yuli Tamir (Labor) and National Union MK Zevulun Orlev squared off against each other at a Knesset committee meeting Wednesday, with the minister asking MK Orlev to remove his political immunity so she could sue him for libel.

The National Union MK agreed and then charged the minister, who is part of the Peace Now organization, for not telling the truth concerning budget cuts in the National Service (Sherut Leumi) program for religious girls. The Education Ministry has cut most National Service positions in the school system.

Mk Orlev also called on the Labor party to dismiss Minister Tamir because of what he said are her anti-national and anti-religious policies.
