(IsraelNN.com) Former Prisoner of Zion Ida Nudel and the Shurat HaDin legal center announced Monday that they plan to file a petition to the Supreme Court asking that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert be forced to intervene on behalf of a Palestinian Authority Arab who helped Israeli fight terrorist groups in Judea and Samaria. The Arab man, 25-year-old Imad Saad, was sentenced to death by a PA court for his role in Israel’s assassination of four wanted terrorists.

Nudel and Shurat HaDin suggested a series of steps that Olmert could take to obtain a pardon for Saad, such as freezing negotiations with the PA or stopping the release of PA terrorist prisoners and similar “good-will gestures.” If diplomatic measures prove ineffective, Olmert should order the IDF to free Saad by force, they said.

If the sentence is not overturned, Saad could be killed at any time, Shurat HaDin warned. Shurat HaDin and Nudel have filed similar suits in the past, and have managed to save dozens of PA Arabs who helped Israel fight terrorism from death at the hands of the PA.
