The High Court Monday rejected an appeal from Ace Hardware and Home Center that it cancel a lower court ruling against their opening stores on the Sabbath. If the companies are convicted, they face fines of several thousands of dollars.

The Industry Trade and Labor Ministry regards their decision as a major victory. The ministry hires non-Jews to inspect if stores operate on the Jewish day of rest.
