There are at least 9,780 synagogues in 1,040 communities in Israel, not including hundreds of temporary minyans and shtiebels, according to a study by Dapei Shofar [Shofar Pages], which publishes a booklet on synagogues, kosher restaurants and other commercial areas related to religious observance.
Almost half of the synagogues comprise members of Oriental Jewish communities, such as Morocco, Iraq and Iran. The latest figures were published in advanced of the Jewish World Fair, which is taking Monday and Tuesday in B'nei Brak.
