Policeman Nearly Drowns in Quicksand
An Israeli policeman almost drowned Saturday – in a field of quicksand. The officer was chasing a criminal in the Yavneh area, in an agricultural field. The officer, who was following the criminal in a car, jumped out of the car when he reached the field.
Several workers in the field pointed the policeman in the direction of the escaping criminal, and he started running. But as he ran, he found himself on a soft spot of land, which turned out to be quicksand – and he began sinking fast. Fortunately, he was carrying an emergency buzzer, used to alert his partner when he was in trouble. The partner and several officers arrived after a few minutes, and managed to pull the officer out of the quicksand. He was taken to the hospital with light injuries.
