Barak to Discuss 'Tahadiya' with Mubarak
Defense Minister Ehud Barak will meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday in order to work out final details of the proposed the "tahadiya" truce between Israel and Hamas that Egypt has been pushing. After that discussion, Barak will bring the details of the agreement to the security cabinet, which will decide on whether or not to accept it.
Israel made it clear to Mubarak last week that it would not accept the deal unless in included freedom for kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. Hamas has refused to accept this condition, unless Israel agrees to a wholesale release of Arab terrorists being held in Israeli prisons as well. According to reports, Israeli officials told Mubarak last week that if the truce does not work out, Israel would seriously weigh a more aggressive military campaign against Hamas.
