American President George W. Bush has concentrated on the themes of hope for peace and friendship with Israel after his first day in Israel. He said that Israel is the United States's "oldest and best friend in the world."

He repeated his hope for peace between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Israel, but foreign media have focused on the criminal investigation against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert as a growing obstacle for advancement of an agreement with the PA.
