A group of Democratic Senators has introduced a resolution that would block $1.4 billion in arms sales to Saudi Arabia if the oil-rich kingdom does not agree to increase its production significantly. New York Sen. Charles Schumer asserted, "We are saying to the Saudis, 'If you aren't helping us, why should we be helping you?'"

The resolution was purposely introduced to coincide with American President George W. Bush's visit to the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.
