(IsraelNN.com) Dan Gillerman, Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, warned Wednesday morning that the Hizbullah takeover of key areas in Lebanon has brought Iran to Israel's northern border. He called on the international community to act "for the sake of Lebanon and the entire region," adding that the country is "torn and bleeding."

Gillerman's comments came almost two years after Hizbullah set off the Second Lebanon War with Israel when it staged a cross-border raid that resulted in the kidnapping of IDF soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev. Opposition parties and several military officials warned the government that its agreement to a United Nations-initiated ceasefire would allow Iranian-backed Hizbullah to re-arm and become more powerful in Lebanon.

Gillerman added that Iran "in a sense [is] on our southern border as well." He was refering to Hamas in Gaza, which also receives aid and some direction from Iran.
