Israelis who watch TV on their computer using a special TV card are not obligated to pay the TV tax, according to the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court.

The ruling counters what has been the Israel Broadcasting Authority's policy in its aggresive collection of a mandatory TV tax that helps fund state-run TV stations.

The ruling said that computers hooked up to sattelite dishes do have to pay the tax, unless they are disconnected.
