Egyptian Intelligence head Omar Suleiman came to Israel on Monday to discuss a proposed temporary ceasefire with Gaza terrorist groups. Suleiman called on Israeli leaders to be “more flexible” regarding kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Ehud Barak both told Suleiman that they would not agree to a ceasefire deal that did not include Shalit’s release.
Suleiman called on Israel to agree to the ceasefire and only then to negotiate Shalit’s release, in exchange for hundreds of terrorist prisoners. Israel’s refusal to release certain terrorist killers is delaying a possible deal with Shalit’s captors, he said.
