The domain name Israel.com will be sold for $5.5 million in the near future, according to sources quoted in Bizportal. The site name was sold in honor of Israel’s 60th Independence Day. The buyer’s identity has not been revealed.

The domain name’s owner, Jan-Noel Freedman, said he registered the domain in 1994. He had no idea the name would make him money someday, he said. “Basically, I didn’t want someone to put it to inappropriate use, so I registered it,” he explained.
