Water to Cost Less for Large Families

(IsraelNN.com) Water prices will be calculated in converse proportion to the number of people in a household according to a planned reform, and families with numerous children will thus pay a lower rate for water, Infrastructures Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer informed MK Meir Porush (UTJ). The minister also said that socio-economically weak families will receive additional discounts on the price of water.

In response to another question from Porush, Ben-Eliezer said that the ministry has no intention of rationing water to households but only to create a differentiation in price, so that "those who waste more will pay more."

Ben-Eliezer said that the ministry has no intention of using technical means to limit water consumption but assured Porush that if this option does come up, "the special needs of the mikvehs will be taken into account."
