VE Day March Begins in the Center of Jerusalem
(IsraelNN.com) Hundreds of World War II veterans of the Soviet Red Army marched proudly down the main street of Jerusalem, from Zion Square to Safra Square Sunday at midday, accompanied by Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, Immigration and Absorption Minister Yaakov Edry and Likud Party Chairman and Knesset Opposition Leader Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu.
The annual march, in which the Israel Police Band and Russian-Israeli business tycoon Arkadi Gaydamak participated, commemorates 63 years since the Allied victory over the Nazis in Europe.
