Lebanese government troops are patrolling the streets of Beirut following the withdrawal of Iranian and Syrian-backed Hizbullah guerrillas from the capital over the weekend after its takeover on Friday.
The terror group withdrew after the government acceded to its demands to reinstate airport security chief Brig.-Gen. Wafiq Shoukair, who was sacked for his alleged ties to the group. The government is also being forced to back away from its decision to outlaw Hizbullah's independent telecommunications system, which it referred to as "the most important part of the weapons of the resistance."
Essentially, Hizbullah is currently in control of Lebanon, although the western-backed Lebanese government troops are patrolling the streets in an attempt to show some sovereignty over the nation.
