MK Ami Ayalon (Labor) extolled on Wednesday the courage of pre-statehood Jewish underground fighters – including those of the Etzel and Lechi.

"The underground organizations – the Hagana, Etzel and Lechi – and the hundreds of their members who were incarcerated in the Akko Jail, used different methods, but fought for our right to establish a Jewish national home in the Land of Israel. Their courage is an inseparable part of the story of Israeli heroism," Ayalon said, during a visit to the Akko Jail.

The British military kept Jewish underground fighters locked up in the Akko Jail and hanged some of them.
