MK Yuli Edelstein (Likud) said Wednesday that a High Court decision yesterday was an expression of the court's intention to change the Law of Return so that it no longer gives Jews an advantage in receiving Israeli citizenship. The court gave the State two months' time Tuesday to inform it why the Law of Citizenship should not be rescinded.
The Law of Citizenship prevents Arabs from the PA from receiving Israeli citizenship even if they marry Arab-Israeli citizens. Two years ago, the High Court voted by a one-judge majority in favor of the law, for security reasons, but Judge Miriam Naor, voted with the law's opponents this time.
Edelstein said that changing the law so that Arabs from the PA may stay in Israel with their partners will turn into "a back door through which Palestinians will realize the 'right of return.'"
