MK Zevulun Orlev (NU/NRP) presented a law Wednesday that would grant citizenship to soldiers who were killed in the War of Independence before the State of Israel was declared.

Orlev said that the Ministry of Interior said it could not give these soldiers retroactive citizenship because they were not alive at the time the State of Israel was founded.

The state that the "people of the silver platter" dreamed of must give these heroes posthumous citizenship," Orlev declared. "The Silver Platter" is a reference to a famous poem by Natan Alterman about the youth that fought for Israel's independence.
