Hizbullah is flying weapons into Lebanon and is trying to take control of the Beirut airport, anti-Syrian leader Walid Jumblatt claimed at a news conference. He called for the expulsion of the Iranian envoy to Beirut and the firing of the airport's security head, who, he said, both help Hizbullah. The anti-Syrian March 14 Forces issued a statement condemning Hizbullah for "occupying Downtown Beirut and…trying to put the airport under its control."
Jumblatt disclosed evidence that Hizbullah set up surveillance cameras "to monitor the arrival of Lebanese or foreign leaders and to kidnap or assassinate [people] on the airport road." He added, "I am disclosing such information about Hizbullah before people march in my funeral or parliamentary majority leader Sa'ad Hariri's funeral."
He accused Hizbullah of setting up a private phone network in the Hizbullah-dominated southern suburbs of Beirut, located near the airport and deploying booby-trapped vehicles.
