Leftists: Police Prevent Us from Following Hevron Jews

An ultra-leftist group named "Breaking the Silence" claimed Friday that the police are preventing its members from moving about in Hevron in order to track the activity of the ancient Jewish city's Jewish residents. The main reason for this, the group told Haaretz, was that the police have "surrendered to the policy of the settlers in Hevron and Kiryat Arba."

The police said that the tours of Hevron conducted by "Breaking the Silence" were "a platform for extreme leftist elements to enter the Jewish neighborhoods in Hevron and thus disturb the balance in the area." The police claimed that all of its actions were legal.

A "tour" by the leftist group was blocked Thursday by Jews from Hevron and Kiryat Arba. The Jewish residents said that the leftists' leader, Yehuda Shaul, tried to run over one of them with his car.
