Bahrain's lone Jewish woman legislator is a contender to become the country's ambassador to the United States, she told The Associated Press. Huda Nono, one of two Jewish members in Bahrain's upper chamber, would be the first Jew from an Arab country to serve in a high-level diplomatic position in Washington.
Nono's family is prominent among the 10 Jewish families living in the pro-Western island nation that is ruled by Muslims. Appointing her to the post of ambassador would be considered a sign that the government will establish formal diplomatic relations with Israel.
