London's left-wing mayor Ken Livingstone, who frequently has collided with the Jewish community, is heavily backed by Muslims in his race for re-election against Conservative party candidate Boris Johnson. Among Mayor Livingstone's supporters is Muslim scholar Yousef Al-Karadawi, who has been accused of anti-Semitism. Voters went to the polls on Thursday, and preliminary results show them running neck-and-neck.
Johnson has openly expressed his fear of a creeping Islamic takeover of London. After Muslim terrorist attacks killed 52 people in the city, he wrote that "Islam is the problem."
