Pope Benedict XVI met Iranian intellectuals Wednesday evening and discussed matters pertaining to the tension between Christians and Muslims all over the world.

"Neither reason nor faith should serve as a justification for violence," Benedict said. "Unfortunately," he added, "both are often used in order to perpetrate it."

Two years ago, the Pope made a speech in Germany in which he linked Islam with violence and unreasonable behavior.
