Top Police Brass will Face Lie Detector Test

The Israel Police will subject its top officers to lie detector testing. The tests will be administered to all officers from the rank of Commander upwards and for policemen holding sensitive positions in the intelligence field. The government hopes to use the testing to fight press leaks and police corruption.

The Ministerial Committee for Shabak Matters, which is chaired by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, approved the new measure Wednesday. A final decision will be reached after the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee discusses the matter.

The tests will be administered to 150 officers including the Police Commissioner, and to hundreds of intelligence officers as well as officers and investigators in the national investigative units.
