Hundreds of Jews gathered in the Kotel plaza Wednesday afternoon to pray for the health of Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, the former Chief Sephardic Rabbi, who is held in very high esteem by both the Ashkenazi and the Sephardic communities.
Rabbi Eliyahu's aide, Rabbi Shmuel Zaafrani who heads the HaMeiri Yeshiva, told Arutz Sheva that Rabbi Mordechai's condition is stable and that his doctors hope he will be able to leave the Intensive Care Unit within the next 24 hours.
The Rabbi of Tzfat, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, who is Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu's son, said Tuesday on Arutz Sheva: "Many prayers are needed. Whoever is in intensive care needs many prayers."
