American President George W. Bush "is concluding his second term in office with zero accomplishments in foreign affairs…and, therefore, it is very nice for him to warm himself in the aura of the successful foiling of the evil project in Syria," an opinion article in the Hebrew newspaper Yediot Aharonot stated Wednesday. The article referred to the September bombing of a nuclear suite under construction in northern Syria.
The Ma'ariv newspaper presented two opposite opinions concerning talks with Syria, one warning that Syria must cut ties with Iran and Hizbullah before holding negotiations with Israel. Leftist leader Yariv Oppenheimer countered, "A peace accord with Syria is a strategic card against [Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad."
