"Little David" Could Still Pack a Big Wallop

Archaeologists have found a homemade mortar from the "Davidka" (Little David) Israeli cannon used during the 1948 War of Independence in Jerusalem, it was announced Tuesday.

The mortar -- which authorities believe may still be dangerous -- was found in the Western Wall (Kotel) Plaza during archaeological exacavations in the area. Police sappers transported the mortar to an area outside the city, where they planned to destroy it in a controlled explosion.
