Two planes nearly collided over Tel Aviv Tuesday morning, Army Radio reported.

The near-disaster took place between an IDF Hercules transport plane and an El Al flight with 150 passengers. The military plane was instructed to travel at a special height due to limited visibility but the Air Force command center failed to inform Ben Gurion Airport Air Traffic Control.

The quick response of an alert air traffic controller who noticed the impending impact prevented what would have been a mass-casualty disaster. The IDF admitted that it was at fault and said it would launch an investigation into the incident.
