A toy manufacturer in the Ukraine is preparing to sell a 16-inch doll of Adolf Hitler, with the initial sale in Kiev, despite Ukrainian laws that prohibit most Nazi images. Purchasers will be able to choose different designs of clothes for the doll. The company said that if they are popular, it may produce more items with a Nazi theme, including barracks and models of concentration camps and gas chambers.
The project has sparked controversy in the Ukraine, where the German invasion of the former Soviet Union ended with the deaths of approximately three million residents, about half of them Jews. Jews in the Ukraine have been the target of escalating anti-Semitic attacks by neo-Nazis.
A Ukrainian newspaper reported that the dolls will go on sale in the summer, but a British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) report suggests some stores already are selling the figurines.
