Ten heads of local government in Judea and Samaria have signed a letter to President Shimon Peres asking that he pardon nationalist Jewish prisoners for the upcoming 60th anniversary of Israel's establishment.
The letter mentions "Jewish nationalist prisoners who were convicted of various offenses for deeds they did in periods of failing security and out of deep personal and public," and calls upon Peres to "allow them to return to their homes, their families and their young children and thus rehabilitate themselves" after they expressed contrition for their deeds.
The letter has thus far been signed by Bikat HaYarden Regional Council Head Dubi Tal, Mate Binyamin Regional Council Head Avi Roeh, Har Hevron Regional Council Head Tzviki Bar Chai, Shomeron Regional Council Head Gershon Masika, Kedumim Local Council Head Chananel Durani, Betar Illit Mayor Rabbi Meir Rubinstein, Bet El Local Council Head Moshe Rosenboim, Efrat Local Council Head Eli Mizrachi, Kiryat Arba Local Council Head Tzvi Katzover and Karnei Shomeron Local Council Head Herzl Ben-Ari.
