Israel and Britain are closing a deal that will result in compensation of 12 million shekels ($3.5 million) to the family of a fatally shot filmmaker in return for dropping attempts to extradite the soldiers involved in the incident. The filmmaker, James Miller, was fatally shot in 2003 when he entered a war zone in Rafiah, in southern Gaza. Miller's family showed the IDF ballistic tests that showed he was killed by army soldiers. But an IDF investigation concluded there was insufficient evidence to prosecute soldiers.
The compensation is approximately half of what Miller's family originally demanded.
