IDF, PA Coordinate Empowerment of PA

A coordination meeting took place on April 18, between the Head of Civil Administration, Brigadier General Yoav Mordechai, PA ("Palestinian Authority") Minister of Social Affairs, Hussein a-Sheikh, and representatives from the Palestinian security forces. The participants discussed the continued implementation of the easing of restrictions on Arabs in Judea and Samaria, as promised to the U.S. administration.

During the meeting, it was decided that the State of Israel would allow "in principle" the openings of 20 police stations manned by PA "policemen" in various cities and villages in Judea and Samaria. The extent of their areas of jurisdiction will be coordinated with the IDF. Local IDF Brigade Commanders will hold coordination meetings with their counterparts prior to the inauguration of the police stations in order to implement the agreement.

Brig. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, commenting on the meeting, said that "these are additional steps taken to support the Palestinian government and to ease the movement of the Palestinian population, while preserving maximum security."
