French film star Brigitte Bardot is on trial in Paris for saying, "The Muslim community is destroying our country and imposing its acts." Her statement resulted in her being charged with "inciting racial hatred." The Movement against Racism and for Friendship between Peoples also charged Bardot with writing French officials in 2004 that the Muslim population "leads us around by the nose [and...] destroys our country." Bardot, a crusader for animal rights, wrote the letter as part of a protest against the Muslim slaughtering of sheep during a religious festival.

She previously has been charged and convicted four times, once for complaining about the "Islamization of France." The former film star has paid $22,000 in fines and once received a two-month suspended jail sentence. Her first conviction was for complaining about "foreign over-population," mainly by Muslim families.
