The Magen David Adom emergency response organization took two concrete shelters from the city of Sderot on Tuesday and brought them to the north. MDA officials explained that the two shelters were MDA property, and had been stationed in Sderot temporarily while the organization built a reinforced station capable of withstanding rocket attacks. The stations are needed in the north, they said.
Local residents expressed anger at the decision to move the stations, saying the stations had provided protection to shoppers at a nearby grocery store and other local residents. Dozens of residents will now be left without a place to find shelter in case of rocket attack, they said. “MDA is not the government of Israel, and it is not our duty to provide concrete shelters,” MDA officials said in response.
