A survey conducted recently among Protestant and Catholic Christians in the United States revealed that 82 percent say they love the state of Israel and the Jewish people, and feel a moral obligation to support Israel. Fifty percent said they believed the entire city of Jerusalem should remain under Israeli sovereignty.
Thirty-two percent of respondents said they believed a Palestinian Authority state, if established, would be a hotbed of terrorism, while 24 percent said they believed such a state would be peaceful and democratic. Forty-four percent said they were unsure. Forty-five percent said they would support a presidential candidate who promised to fight terrorism and to avoid pressuring Israel into accepting dangerous compromises.
