Transportation and Road Safety Minister Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) has called for a national authority to oversee public transportation. He told a conference in Tel Aviv that the proposed body would coordinate operations of all public transportation companies.
 
He added that he wants his ministry's budget to be doubled in order to close what he said is a 30-year gap between development of the infrastructure in Israel compared with that of the Western world.
