The High Court Monday morning rejected a petition by the family of murdered teenager Danny Katz to overrule President Shimon Peres's pardon of the jail sentence of the terrorists who killed the child in 1983. The court says they cannot overrule the President's authority even though they understand the pain of the family.
The 14-year-old boy was murdered in the Galilee, and five terrorists were convicted of kidnapping and murdering him. They have claimed that they confessed under stress and did not carry out the attack.
"We are aware of the plaintiffs' pain," said Justice Uzi Fogelman. "Time gone by has not diminished this horrible crime, which took the life of a young boy, who had yet to experience life, but the court has no choice but to take into consideration the president's unique authority to commute a prisoner's sentence."
