Maariv to Summon Netanyahu in Libel Case

Daily newspaper Maariv sent Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu a letter in which it informed him that it will summon him as a witness in the libel suit filed by Netanyahu's wife, Sarah, against the paper. The letter from Maariv's legal counsel, Attorney Amit Dolev, also asks Netanyahu to refrain from discussing the case with his wife in order to prevent the possibility of coordination of testimony.

Sarah Netanyahu recently filed a NIS 1 million libel suit against Maariv following two reports that were published by the paper in December. The first report accused Netanyahu of demanding her own parking space, at the expense of the general public. She says that the request for a parking space was filed because of Shabak (General Security Service) considerations.

A second report published on the same day quoted Binyamin Netanyhau as saying that when he was Prime Minister it took him a few days to end the students' strike, but Sarah Netayahu claims he never said these things.
