(IsraelNN.com) Dozens of teenagers will hold a “cleaning dive” in Eilat this weekend to protect local coral reefs.  The teens are participating in the dive as part of their work with an ecology program called “Guardians of the Gulf” (Shomrei HaMifratz).

The teens will be accompanied by handicapped IDF veterans, who will dive along with guides accustomed to working with handicapped divers.  The divers will remove litter and any objects that could endanger the reefs’ ecological systems.

The project will be supported by the Manta and Marina Divers diving centers in Eilat, both of which will provide equipment for the young students to use during their dive.  The centers will also subsidize the cost of renting equipment for members of the public who wish to join the cleaning operation.
