Gaza fishermen caught and killed an endangered Leatherback sea turtle over the weekend, according to Reuters.  The incident took place near Gaza City.

The giant turtle is thought to possess healing properties, according to local superstition.  Many Gaza Arabs believe the turtle’s blood can heal children with breathing problems and adults with bad backs.  After the turtle was caught it was dragged ashore and fishermen collected its blood while surrounded by an excited crowd.
